Final: New EA BF2 beta map: Highway Tampa

It is a pity, how some people start to whine about an unexpected, free map after looking at some screenshots or playing one or two rounds.

My first impression after playing 4-5 rounds (64er size) is:
Positive:
-No bombers and no attack helos, otherwise it just would have been another Cleansweep or Kubra.
-For free.
-Big tankbattles possible

Negative:
-Could have been done without the fighter jet.

I am happy to have something new on the battlefield, but I have to agree, that a pure CQC map is still missing...

i love to have tank battles since bf1942, yeh maybe its a bit big, but this is all i wanted in bf2.
big desert maps where 6 tanks fight against other 6 tanks.
this is the heaven for me.
and if u enter in a full 64 server then it won't be big anymore.

they should make a china vs usmc cqb map.

As of June 5, 2007, a new free map for Battlefield 2 called "Tampa Highway" also includes advertising billboards for Intel, strangely enough including one that refers to Intel being around for 136 years (which would make sense in 2142). In fact, the storyline of the map is that the player is supposed to protect shipments of Intel Core 2 Duos.

lol yeah i shot at a box and it exploded... instead of fish, small CPUs were flying around...

So in 2142 the best processor I can get is a core 2 duo, weak I tell you :D

I've read more negative reviews of this map than positive. I enjoyed playing it, will be playing more tonight. I think it is cool that we get an EF type map that can appear in regular game rotation without the need for a booster pack.

So there is no attack choppers - good idea I think otherwise you will get four guys with highs scores and the rest disconnecting because they can't get in the choppers. The same think will happen with the jets of course - I think the waiting area for the jets will be a well artied area.

I'm with you bro. I just tried the map and it's seems okay to me for what it's worth...so I'd play it. As for whining, that's just the way it is with people on BF2. I feel that people whine about it cuz they can't do the things they like to do such as heli/jet whore, etc. I say just accept the map for what it is and play on it. People whined about Jalabad cuz it had no helis/jets. People whined about it cuz it was too big. People whined about it cuz they were getting p3wnd by too many snipers. Actually I'm surpised EA has even thought about the BF2 community to even kick out another map after Jalabad. They could of just said "We got ya money, now screw all y'all....and go to the BF grave with 1942!" lol

Eheheheh... you got it dude! That is something I would like to do with some folks from the GNR clan... still we always go outo for the battle! Anyway, for those who asked, last night I already saw a ranked server running this map. Is this possible, I mean, it is still a beta test!

Yes it is allowed to be on ranked servers, I played ranked last night.

I have just completed 3 rounds of the map and all I can say is WOW.

I don't know where to begin. I first joining in the middle of one, the Mig had control of the skies - any chopper or plane was being raped at the airfield. No biggie for me, I created a squad and invited a lot of people in, grabbed an APC and headed for a far map. Within a couple of minutes, I didn't believe what I was seeing, probally about 200 meters out, there was a cluster f**k of tanks... counted 7 of them and then turned around and ran... FAST.

I eventually made it to a flag after 3 or 4 minutes of cross country driving, captured the flag, only to see half a dozen armor units coming my way. I ended up laying down all of my mines, and hopped on the TOW. Took 1 tank out, blew another 3 with my mines before I died.

I really don't think that the jets make much of an impact on the map if they do their job and engage the other planes. The main thing you need to worry about is not being raped by a gang of tanks,

You said it bro. Watch out for the tanks.

Interestingly enough I played sniper, and found it to be a great map to s/l on. Layed a few traps for pairs of tanks to drive into...lots of shadows to hide a/t mines. infantry can cap a flag and be at least semi safe from armor. tons of oil derricks to hide on and lots of low cover. some great banks of trees to snipe out of or a/t snipe.

just had couple of rounds and jezus i love this map.
pure tank vs tank fight, and i really destroyed alot of tanks, and what i love is fighitng in long distances, really fun.
i love this map.
this map will be my next strike

It's nice how the map is so large and wide open. You can find any way you like to the flag, so you don't get trapped into one or two ways to travel.

I found this made for nice fights at the flags, blazing DAOs in action

If you read the original post @ EA forum, it does say this map is for "2 generations of battlefield".
