Nothing wrong with this, i can still enjoy myself ... it's just capture the flag and team deathmatch combined.

i'm not tired of the way it is yet either, but a king of the hill / hold the fort style wouldn't be all that terrible. one faction has to hold a base for a certain amount of time. wouldn't be much fun on an open map with air assests to assault the base. then it would be your typical base rape and wouldn't be fun for the defending team. might work in special forces though with no armor or air assets. just straight up hmmvs and jeeps to move the attackers around.

but then again there are already plenty games out there that have this exact style.

Very true. Anyway, what's a Battlefield game without the conquest, point taking, battle of iron wills and spilled blood that we all know and (sometimes) love? If I want to play another kind of multiplayer then there are a veritable ton of Half Life 2 mods I could go play.

I totally agree with Scopestyle and CK-iller. There are plenty of other games out there like Unreal Tourn., CS:S, HL2, etc. Just log on to one of them and play one of those for a bit.

CK-iller, you mentioned spilled blood, that would be nice to see in BF2! Morbid I know, but a vital part is realism! Wouldn't it be nice to puree someone agains a bunker with the tank or apc cannon? :w00t:

so what your saying is you wouldnt want a CTV,CTF,or DM modes in bf2??....i personally would cuz it just gives you an option to play something else...and conquest is like deathmatch yes...but in no way like CTF...in CTF you have to go into an enemy base pick up a flag and take it back to your base while the whole other team is gunning for you...

I'll admit though I wouldn't mind a fortress type mode, I've always enjoyed the attrition of a good Starship Troopers style 'hold the keep' game. If they could make that co-op with 32 human players in the fortress holding off waves of AI bots, well that would get my vote every time for certain.

I've played the odd level like that in various half life and HL2 modifications over the years and good co-op games against bots are definitely some of the best fun that can be had online. Wish they'd add 32 player size co-op for BF2 though, being limited to 16 at the moment isn't much fun.

True it would be fun Stizzy. Halo was quite an addiction of mine in college and part of that was due to the different scenarios you could play in! Oh the many late nights of networked halo battles.

CK-iller--
Definitely wish they had a better BOT system in BF2. My roommates and I would/still play BF1942 for hours and hours against bots. So much fun! Especially, like you said, doing the starship troopers gig by making the ticket ratios very unbalanced and doing a mission like Normandy or one of the beach invasions, but be the Germans. It was practically impossible, but we just wanted to see how long we could hold them off.

I'm definitely planning to try and get a few of my mates together for some more 1942 co-op in future, hopefully there'll be some better mods around soon to do it for BF2. As for the blood thing, I'm sure they could've put some in. Legally I'm sure a 13 year old could go in to a shop and buy America's Army (if they sold it in shops), that's got blood in it. The back of my BF2 box says 16+ so they could easily have put in a few little puffs of claret.

Oh the good old days of me and my mate with two sniper rifles Vs 20 bots on CS!

The fun that could be had doing the same in BF2, especially with the addition of claymores

EA really pissed off a lot of CTF clans when they dropped it for BFV, they fumbled yet again with BF2.
CTF is just so much more interesting than run get flag run away run back to flag because its gone white...repeat to infinity...Booooring.

I have been playing a lot of CS Source lately, but not the real kind. Theres a server side mod called zombie horde, basically the terrorists are all bots, only use knifes and have 500 health and can only be damaged by a headshot. Imagine a bunch of CT's with shotguns in a corner fighting off 10 zombies which are circling around them. :)

Keep in mind if they came out with strictly a CTF, TDM and such modes... It would have been a more apparent targeting of CoD:UO audience.

I do agree that more modes would be nice, but it is not needed yet. There is still plenty of game play left in the current maps, moreso for the SF maps, atleast for me and many others.

/rant on

The problem with gamers in this day and age is that they buy a game (KNOWING WHAT IT IS ABOUT) and start complaining a few months later about the lack of content. This is not just BF2, it is EVERY SINGLE GAME out there.

People are used to doing the same old stuff. Each game is just a slight variation of the previous, for the most part.

If you are that tired of playing these games, pick up a different genre.

True that! :w00t: Zombie mode did and probably still would hold my attention for hours! It was so much fun especially when the server admin restricted weapons solely to pistols. What a blast! Do you know a specific server that plays zombie mode constantly? I just used to frequent a server Sat. mornings that would temporarily switch the server to zombie mode for a few hours. Let me know!

You could probably find some if you just ordered the servers alphabetically and went down to the bottom where the z (for zombie) ones are. I've played a few rounds of it myself and it wasn't quite as good since human players were able to switch over to the zombie side, but if they did a slightly more realistic version of that for BF2 I'd probably play nothing else.

Dunno if I'd play in with the BF2 engine. There isn't enough gratification out of headshots, or blood splattering. Since CS:S isn't as large scale as BF2 the graphics and physics of just the battle I think are a little better.
