But in terms of photoshop, most people refer to the stock image as a render, like it or not, that's what they're commonly known as in the graphics community.

Most 3d images have copyrights, and if a webdesigner or graphic artist were to use them in his/her work. They'd have a lawsuit on there ass. Only trivial things like sigs can get away with it.
The battlefield fan site kit is indeed stock imagery, but it makes me sad, as a 3d artist myself, to hear people think all 3d artwork is stock imagery. So quick to call it their own without paying any repsects to the creator.
